Vitro – AI-ready infrastructure: Pangilinan’s PLDT plans 100MW data center in South Luzon
VITRO Inc. is set to revolutionize artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) services in Southern Luzon with the development of a cutting-edge data center, designed to meet the surging demand from enterprises.
ePLDT’s data center subsidiary is looking to acquire additional land for the new facility, which is expected to have a capacity of at least 100 megawatts.
Victor S. Genuino, president and CEO of ePLDT and VITRO, said:
We are very optimistic about the growth of the data center industry,
“Our next data center will be in South Luzon. Vitro Santa Rosa will remain the focal point,” Genuino said.
VITRO aims to be the first end-to-end AI services provider in the Philippines, having already positioned itself as the country’s first provider of AI infrastructure.
The company’s focus on AI readiness is slated for 2025, as it plans to offer both public and private sector clients access to HPC services via its AI-ready data center infrastructure. This includes the upcoming launch of its Graphics Processing Unit-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) offering.
As part of its efforts to support high-density AI workloads, VITRO is preparing its data centers with GPU stacks that currently support up to 50 kW, with plans to scale this to 100 kW in the future.
VITRO’s Santa Rosa facility has recently been energized, with Meralco’s activation of its 115 kV Switching Station in Sta. Rosa, making it the most advanced AI-ready hyperscale data center in the Philippines. The center is now fully operational, with several telecommunications providers, hyperscalers, and enterprises establishing points of presence.
Large enterprises and government agencies will be able to scale AI capabilities without the financial burden of hardware purchases, using GPUaaS to boost productivity and operational efficiency.
Backed by PLDT’s robust infrastructure, the service provides clients with cost-effective, flexible pricing, allowing them to pay for only what they consume.
VITRO’s expansion plans and the introduction of GPUaaS are a critical part of the Philippines’ ambition to become a digital hub in the Asia-Pacific region, attracting global cloud and AI companies to tap into the country’s rapidly growing digital landscape.
