Stillwater’s Data Center Project: A $3 Billion Tech Transformation.
It’s important for voters to have information about the data center project and the vote regarding electricity for the centers, that will be on Nov. 5, 2024. Stillwater Electric Utility is a public power provider. For OG&E to provide electricity at the data centers requires a vote of the people. A similar vote was required in 2007 for OG&E to serve the Oklahoma State University campus.
What is the Data Center Project?
Stillwater City Council, City staff, Stillwater Chamber, and local stakeholders have been working with a U.S.A. based Fortune 100 Company to develop a potential $3 billion economic project in the City of Stillwater that would also support the state and country.
The Company developing the data center campus could construct up to six centers. City Council is considering an agreement to allow construction of the first two phases, each approximately 300,000 sq. ft. If the project is approved and construction begins soon, Phase I could be completed as early as 2027.
BENEFITS FOR STILLWATER
The Company behind the data center project has a well-known history of developing high-quality, large-scale data center campuses. They are a household name and will be a community partner for Oklahoma State University, Stillwater Public Schools, Meridian Technology Center, and others.
Significant, new revenues through PILOT payments to local taxing jurisdictions (does not affect SPS state aid).
Approximately 30 jobs per Phase, along with hundreds of construction jobs and significant expenditures with local contractors during both the construction and the operation of each Phase.
There will be significant sales tax collection on construction materials.
Once fully operational, electric utility franchise fee revenue will be approximately $2.25 million per phase, per year. This is dedicated in the project plan to public parks, facilities, amenities, operations, and future economic development.
The Company will pay its fair share of infrastructure improvements which will financially benefit the City of Stillwater water and wastewater customers.
