Silicon Motion Unveils 128TB MonTitan™ SSD RDK to Accelerate AI-Driven Data Center Storage

Silicon Motion Technology Corporation (“Silicon Motion”) has announced the sampling of its innovative MonTitan™ SSD Reference Design Kit (RDK), a high-capacity solution supporting up to 128TB with QLC NAND. Built on the advanced MonTitan PCIe Gen5 SSD Development Platform, this new RDK is designed to accelerate AI-driven enterprise and data center storage by offering OEMs and partners a powerful and efficient development solution.

At the core of the SSD RDK is Silicon Motion’s PCIe Dual Ported enterprise-grade SM8366 controller, which supports PCIe Gen5 x4 NVMe 2.0 and OCP 2.5 data center specifications. This enables exceptional performance, superior quality of service (QoS), and expansive capacity tailored to the growing demands of large-scale data lake storage.

Leveraging cutting-edge 2Tb die QLC NAND, the 128TB SSD is optimized with enterprise- and data center-specific firmware to ensure both reliability and endurance in high-intensity environments. The drive delivers outstanding sequential read speeds exceeding 14 GB/s and random read performance surpassing 3.3 million IOPS, significantly enhancing throughput while mitigating operational bottlenecks. Compared to other high-capacity Gen5 SSD solutions, MonTitan™ SSD technology boosts random read performance by over 25%, leading to faster LLM training and GNN processing times.

Additionally, it optimizes power consumption for AI storage infrastructures while improving AI GPU utilization. The 128TB SSD RDK further supports NVMe 2.0 FDP (Flexible Data Placement), a critical capability that enhances data management, SSD write efficiency, and endurance. This is complemented by Silicon Motion’s proprietary PerformaShape™ technology, which employs a multi-stage shaping algorithm to fine-tune SSD performance according to user-defined QoS parameters.

By integrating FDP and PerformaShape™, this solution effectively streamlines data handling, reduces latency, and maximizes overall efficiency—particularly across AI data pipelines, spanning Ingest, Prep, Train, and Inference stages in multi-tenant environments.
