OpenAI allegedly mulls first data center for storage
OpenAI executives have been discussing creating the company’s first-ever data center, The Information reported on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to the sources, the center would potentially be used to store hardware and software data worth billions of dollars, which OpenAI is considering purchasing.
The Information shared that, should the plans come to fruition, the AI firm would become
one of the world’s biggest storage customers.
Nonetheless, nothing has been finalized yet. The possible storage purchase would be tied to the Stargate data center initiative revealed earlier this year. As per one source, OpenAI wants up to 5 exabytes of storage. The deal would not only allow the business to be less reliant on its cloud server provider, Microsoft Corp., but could also cut some costs for OpenAI.
