HGC links eight data centers in the Philippines with new DCI service

Hong Kong-based HGC Global Communications (HGC) has launched its new Data Center Interconnect (DCI) service in the Philippines, which now connects eight data centers across the country.

According to HGC, its DCI service establishes direct data-center-to-data-center connectivity with no other nodes in between, resulting in the lowest latency and eliminating additional points of failure. The service also follows the company’s business model in Southeast Asia of sharing backbone network infrastructure for telcos to interconnect with the aim of reducing their capital expenditure and improving service levels.

HGC has partnered with major data center providers in the Philippines for its new DCI service, including Digital Edge, Digital Halo, STT GDC Philippines, Total Information Management and PLDT’s data center arm, Vitro.

HGC CEO Andrew Kwok said in a statement, adding that the company will expand its connectivity offerings to strengthen the country’s connectivity with key regional hubs such as Hong Kong and Singapore.

We are committed to investing in the Philippines, recognizing it as a rapidly growing hub in the global landscape and as demand for stable connectivity increases, driven by a heavy reliance on advanced technology,

Meanwhile, HGC has chosen Ciena to provide the optical and routing solutions needed to support its new DCI service in the country.

CommVerge, Ciena’s local partner, is deploying Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform – powered by WaveLogic Ai coherent optical technology – to give HGC’s network greater flexibility, improved scalability and adaptability. Ciena’s 3928 routing and switching platform will also be deployed to improve operational efficiency and service consistency across applications.

In addition, HGC will use Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite to support rapid planning, provisioning, deployment and troubleshooting of services, as well as the use of analytics and intelligent network control to optimize network performance.

Michael De Castro, first VP of in-country project investment for HGC’s international business unit, and president of HGC’s Digital Well Infrastructure Corp (DWIC), in a statement, said :

As the Philippines rapidly digitizes, HGC is advancing high-speed, reliable connectivity through its operations on the ground in partnership with local entities, ensuring the country’s connectivity needs are met,

De Castro added,

With this robust infrastructure, the country is set to enhance connectivity, drive innovation, and attract global investments.

“By working with Ciena, we’re investing in a scalable and low-latency architecture to help our partners simplify their approach and set up quickly in new markets,”

Expanding DCI clusters in Southeast Asia

The introduction of the DCI service in the Philippines comes one month after HGC launched DCI clusters across Asia, including in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, to provide a comprehensive DCI infrastructure connecting major data centers in the region.

According to HGC, the Philippine DCI cluster is ready to connect other DCI clusters in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand into a single interconnected network, and will be expanded to other Southeast Asian countries to accommodate the latest technology trends.

HGC recently strengthened its data center PoP in the Philippines by joining PLDT Enterprise’s Vitro Partner Network, allowing the company to expand its footprint to Vitro Sta. Rosa, the largest and first true hyperscale-grade data center in the country.
