The ERNE Group and the FlexBase Group are entering into a strategic partnership for the FlexBase Technology Center in Laufenburg – the mega project with the world’s largest battery storage and AI data center.
By submitting the updated building application, the FlexBase Group and the ERNE Group are reaffirming their common will and commitment to push forward the mega project at the Laufenburg site.
In collaboration with universities and leading technical companies, a unique technology center of national importance is being built in Laufenburg. The former Swissgrid building is being taken over as an operational building and given a new lease of life. The new building opposite the existing building forms the core of the technology center. The world’s largest and most modern battery storage facility of its kind is being built on an area of around 20,000 m2 , non-flammable and non-explosive. The > 500 MW storage facility is complemented by a data center for artificial intelligence, which is sustainably cooled with water and supplies the city of Laufenburg and the surrounding communities with heat via the district heating network. The construction of the technology center will create several hundred new jobs at the Laufenburg site.
The ERNE Group, which helped develop the project from an early stage in close cooperation with the FlexBase Group, convinced the client across the board and was awarded the contract to realize this gigantic project.

Marcel Aumer, CEO, Chairman and Co-founder of the FlexBase Group, does not expect any delays in the ambitious schedule despite the new project. Construction is scheduled to start in spring 2025.
