Edged Breaks Ground on Data Center in Des Moines, Iowa Optimized for Next-Generation AI Training and Inference
ANKENY, IA – (May 6, 2025) – Edged, the fast-growing sustainable infrastructure provider, celebrated the groundbreaking of its newest state-of-the-art data center in Ankeny, Iowa. Strategically located just north of Des Moines, one of the nation’s fastest growing tech hubs, the facility will be built for high-density Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads and equipped with advanced closed-loop waterless cooling and ultra-efficient energy systems.
The ceremonial groundbreaking was attended by Edged operations and construction leaders, alongside project leadership from global, design-build firm, Burns & McDonnell, marking a major milestone in bringing ultra-efficient AI training and inference capacity closer to Midwestern enterprises and hyperscalers.
Bryant Farland, Chief Executive Officer of Edged, said:
Every decision we make at Edged is rooted in sustainability and performance,
“This groundbreaking in Ankeny not only advances our mission to deliver ultra-efficient data centers that protect vital water resources, but also underscores our commitment to local partnerships, economic growth, and positive environmental impact. We’re proud to work alongside the Ankeny community as we deliver infrastructure that is ready to support the next wave of heavy compute.”
Mike Fenske, president of the Global Facilities Group at Burns & McDonnell, said:
Burns & McDonnell is honored to partner with Edged on this transformative project, which reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing digital infrastructure in the data center industry,
“Our integrated design-build approach enables us to bring a construction-first mindset, helping deliver innovative, efficient and resilient facilities that position our clients for long-term success in the growing data center sector.”
The Edged platform is uniquely optimized for both energy efficiency and water conservation. Edged Des Moines will consume zero water for cooling, saving more than 52 million gallons of water annually compared to a similar-sized conventional data center. Its ThermalWorks waterless cooling system supports rack densities of up to 70 kW with air cooling and 200 kW with plug-and-play liquid integration—perfect for the evolving demands of cloud providers and large enterprises.
Edged Des Moines is expected to be complete in 24 months and will join a growing network of Edged facilities currently under construction or operational across North America, including in Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Kansas City and Phoenix. Edged is a subsidiary of Endeavour with a gigawatt-scale project pipeline and several more U.S. sites slated to break ground later this year.
