Eclarion hosts Europe’s largest Artificial Intelligence Cluster for Mistral AI
Eclarion, France’s leading colocation center for modular high-density computers, is hosting the first cluster for French artificial intelligence unicorn Mistral AI. Conceived in partnership with GPU cloud computing provider Fluidstack, the signing of this multi-year contract embodies disruptive innovation and a sovereign strategic vision.
Behind the adventure of this first European AI supercomputer is Eclarion, a young French company launched by the HPC Group over 3 years ago, with the crazy challenge of designing and building the first platform imagined exclusively to hosting supercomputers dedicated to AI and scientific computing. This unique infrastructure is now home to the largest cluster of the French giant Mistral AI in France.
The signing of this partnership between Eclarion, Fluidstack and Mistral AI marks a synchronicity between very different temporalities and rhythms. On the one hand, there’s the long time it takes to build a datacenter, from design to construction, access to energy and administrative approvals, with Eclarion bearing all the risk. On the other hand, the short, frenetic tempo of LLMs and new generations of GPUs, the very basis of AI clusters, in very rapid improvement cycles and in a constantly evolving business universe. Due to Eclarion’s avant-garde positioning, these two temporalities have come together to create a machine that is unique in Europe.
Featuring the very latest generations of GPUs, this technological first in Europe has been made possible to the quality, synergy, diversity and excellence of all the teams working on this project, and also benefits from the strong support of major technology partners such as Dell Technologies and NVIDIA.
The Eclarion infrastructure has also been developed following the unfailing financial support of some of its shareholder’s historical partners, including funds managed by the Omnes Capital, Tikehau Capital and Absolute Capital Partners teams.
It’s also important to underline the support of public authorities – at every national, regional and local level – which will also have been an indispensable requirement, between removing obstacles, managing a complex regulatory framework, and voluntarism to see the creation of this unique sovereign platform. At the end of 2024, Eclarion’s infrastructure was awarded the title of ‘Lieu d’Innovation, and received the support of the Île-De-France region, validating its role as a catalyst for this partnership in perfect coordination with Fluidstack and Mistral AI, in total synergy and alignment for the long term.
