Azora will invest €2 billion in a new data center in Zaragoza

Tillion Data Centers, a subsidiary of the Spanish asset management company, will develop a new data center in Aragon with a capacity to generate up to 300 megawatts. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.

Azora , through its subsidiary Tillion Data Centers , will invest up to €2 billion in the development of a new Data Processing Center (DPC) in Aragon. It will have an initial capacity of 150 megawatts (MW), expandable to 300 MW , and will be located near Villamayor de Gállego (Zaragoza), less than three kilometers from the transmission substation.

The initial 150 MW concession was approved by Red Eléctrica in 2024 and has already received technical validation from Azora. Furthermore, the Government of Aragon has granted the project a Declaration of General Interest (DIGA), paving the way for construction to begin in 2026. This investment will be complemented by another 5 billion euros in computing equipment contributed by data center end users.

The first phase of 150 MW will involve an investment by Azora of €1.1 billion and will generate an average of 1,000 jobs annually. Furthermore, the project manager estimates that this project will contribute €5.5 billion to the regional GDP , an amount that will rise to €9 billion when the 300 MW capacity is reached. At that point, the project manager’s investment will total €1.95 billion, and the project will generate approximately 1,800 jobs annually.

With the arrival of Azora, and following other major projects such as those announced by Blackstone , Aragón has consolidated its position as one of Europe’s leading digital infrastructure and data processing hubs, competing with locations such as Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin. Its combination of energy availability and connectivity has fostered the establishment of major players in the sector.

To maximize energy efficiency and reduce water consumption, the future facility will incorporate advanced closed-loop cooling technologies, limiting annual water use to less than 2,500 cubic meters, equivalent to the consumption of just 25 homes. Furthermore, all energy used will come from 100% renewable sources , either through self-consumption or through contracts with green energy producers.

Santiago Olivares, partner responsible for infrastructure investments at Azora, said:

The growing demand for data processing capacity, driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence and cloud computing, requires massive investments in data center construction.

“This new data center is located in one of Europe’s leading data center hubs, validated by the presence of major players in the sector and supported by an energy and industrial network ideal for sustaining market growth,”

The asset manager plans to develop more than 600 MW, primarily in Spain. In 2023, it launched Quetta Data Centers , a platform aimed at creating a network of six “Edge” data centers in Spain and Portugal to offer low-latency solutions for data processing and transmission. Now, with Tillion Data Centers , it is entering the construction of large-scale data centers, aimed at companies that require maximum processing capacity, including cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
