Azora will invest 1,1 billion in a data center in Villamayor de Gállego – Spain
The investment group has already secured 150 megawatts to operate this data center, but the investment will reach 2 billion if it manages to access more capacity.
The Azora group will invest €1.1 billion in the construction of a data center on an 80-hectare plot north of Villamayor de Gállego, Zaragoza. For its operation, they will offer the data center space and storage to hyperscale companies or companies dedicated to Artificial Intelligence.
For the launch of the first phase of the so-called “Tillion” project , the company has already secured 150 megawatts , but will depend on electricity tenders to obtain another 150 and develop an expansion that would multiply the investment to 1.95 billion euros.
During construction, 736 jobs will be created , which will subsequently be reduced to 154 during the data center’s operational phase . As with the investment, these numbers will increase if the expansion is completed.
Less water consumption
The Government of Aragon has approved the declaration of regional interest with general interest of Aragon (DIGA) for this project to expedite the deadlines, allowing construction work to begin by the end of 2026.
According to the documentation, the new data center will increase Aragon’s GDP by €5.487 billion in the first phase, and by more than €9.3 billion if expanded. Furthermore, it will have a significant “tax footprint.” According to the data provided in the DIGA documentation, the company will pay €138 million in taxes to the Aragonese authorities with the 150-megawatt center. It will be almost €200 million if the center reaches 300 megawatts.
The President of the Aragon Government, Jorge Azcón , highlighted, as a distinguishing feature, that this data center will reduce water consumption thanks to advanced cooling technologies and the use of a closed circuit. It will consume the same amount of water as 25 homes per year. Much less than other announced data centers.
This investment consolidates Aragon as a benchmark territory for the technology sector. Investments in this area exceeding €4 billion have been announced so far this year alone. Furthermore, the announced center could be the Azora group’s first in Aragon, but not the only one. It could also promote two more in the Zaragoza area.
