Avangrid, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, will invest in six new data centers in the United States
Iberdrola , through its subsidiary Avangrid, is intensifying its commitment to
data centers in the United States by building
six new projects that will add 800 megawatts (MW) of capacity. This initiative seeks to meet the growing energy demand generated by
data centers focused on artificial intelligence (AI) .
Avangrid, part of the group headed by Ignacio Sánchez Galán, already has eight projects supporting data centers, totaling more than 1,250 MW. In addition, another six projects are under construction that will provide an additional 800 MW. In total, the company will have an operational or operational portfolio of more than 2,000 MW in the United States to meet the demand for these centers.
Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra highlighted the company’s strategic position, with a broad portfolio of energy projects in 24 states and more than 25 gigawatts (GW) in the pipeline. Azagra said Avangrid is prepared to provide secure energy to major U.S. technology companies and to meet the expected increase in energy demand due to the growth of data centers.
Azagra also highlighted that these projects not only contribute to the country’s energy supply, but also represent significant investments that support local employment and generate financial benefits for the communities where they are located.
Iberdrola currently has an installed capacity of approximately 10.5 GW in 24 states in the United States , allowing it to support the country’s energy demands.
Iberdrola sees a great opportunity in data centres and has launched CPD4Green, a company in which it seeks to establish a joint venture for the development, promotion and expansion of this business in Spain and other regions.
Under this partnership, the company will provide land, assets and grid connection, participating in the design and licensing processes and ensuring the supply of renewable energy 24 hours a day, either from the existing portfolio or from new dedicated assets.
